FIJI

VOSO began it's first trip in Fiji back in the early 1980s and has played an immense role in the growth of the current eye programme in Labasa. We have had a strong relationship with the LIONS club, and together, have organised annual visits seeing on average between 1000 - 1500 patients and conducting 100 cataract surgeries on every trip. Helping the local Fijians is extremely rewarding and we are proud to be involved.

SAMOA

VOSO has a long history of travelling to Samoa. Most recently VOSO has sent optometry only teams that, with the local eye nurses and the New Zealand trained local optometrist, screen for cataracts and other eye disease for the Pacific Eye Institute Surgical team that follows the following week. 
In Apia there is a Eye Hospital where the optometrist is based and glasses can be made on site. VOSO has focused it's efforts on Savai'I, screening for cataracts and eye disease as well as dispensing glasses and sunglasses to those that cannot travel to Apia.

TONGA

Tonga VOSO has always had a strong relationship with the Tongan eye and medical department of the local hospital. We support the only local ophthalmologist (Dr Paula Vivili) in a population of 100,000 - the focus has been to control diabetes and educate local Tongans about the importance of general health. We have visited Tonga on an annual basis for over a decade. On average, we have helped to give back sight to 100 Tongan patients and distributed 1000 pairs of glasses on every trip.
